Automatic updates greyed out.

Hello. I am using Windows XP Service Pack 2 with all the latest updates
installed. My problem is my automatic updates is set on automatic and I have
no control over the service as all of my options on the automatic updates
screen are greyed out. Even when I go to services I can't seem to change the
setting. I would like to be able to have the updates happen when I want them
to if that is possible. I would certainly appreciate any help that I can get
with this. I do have to say I'm not very computer savvy. Thanks.
