automatic update over and over

Every day, many times a day, windows XP automatic update prompts me to
install :

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (819696) - A direct X security update.

I've done it over and over about 50 times now and yet it keeps coming up to
install it.

What's going on and what do I do to fix/stop this??

I searched the posts for other questions on the auto update repeating, but
found none. I apologize if I'm asking a question that's been asked before,
but I couldn't find anything in the posts.

Possible solutions:

1 - delete the folder c:\windows\system32\catroot2

let the auto-update do it's thing, should stay this time.



2 - start/stop the auto-update service.

start, control panel, administrative tools, services, right click automatic
updates, stop. Right click, start.
