XP automatic update SAME update over and over!

Every day, many times a day, windows XP automatic update prompts me to
install :

Security Update for Microsoft Windows (819696) - A direct X security update.

I've done it over and over about 50 times now and yet it keeps coming up to
install it.

What's going on and what do I do to fix/stop this??

I searched the posts for other questions on the auto update repeating, but
found none. I apologize if I'm asking a question that's been asked before,
but I couldn't find anything in the posts - sometimes the subject lines make
it impossible to find the answer to a question already asked - I've been
browsing the posts for a couple of weeks and still don't know what to do
about this. Any ideas? Thanks for any help!

Possible solutions:

1 - Delete or rename the folder c:\windows\system32\catroot2

Then do the updates again.

2 - Start/stop the auto-update service.

Start, control panel, administrative tools, services, right click automatic
updates, click stop. Right click again, click start.
