Autocorrect not formatting properly

In certain files, the autocorrect options are not working properly. Straight
quotes are not converting to smart quotes, two hyphens are not converting to
a dash (and more). I have those selected though.

For "replace text as you type" options, as an example, I've previously
entered that "u.s" be replaced with "United States" and "u.s." be replaced
with "U.S." But in these docs that aren't formatting properly, as soon as I
type "u.s" before I get to add the second period, it replaces it with "United
States" whereas normally it only does that if I hit the space bar after. I
have "const" set to replace with "constitution" and "constly" with
"constitutionally" but I can't get the latter because as soon as I type
"const" I don't get to add the "ly" before it changes. Normally, that
functions properly.

Docs for which this isn't working properly may have originally been saved as
..rtf files but are now .doc files. They also have a custom global template
and add-in used (given to me). But other docs that have both of those
characteristics work fine too, formatting properly.

Are there styles or something else that I should be checking?

Note that AutoCorrect is language-specific, so you should make sure that the
correct language is applied to text.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to be the problem. I
made sure everything was in English (U.S.) as it is for normal docs that work
properly.

You mentioned add-ins. What exactly do these do? Are there any code in them
(which could possibly interfere with AutoCorrect)?
