auto-updating an auto text field code value

Glennard Lud

I have a text box as a lettehead. Its included in 300
letters. However in the future I'm going to need to change
the letterhead. Rather than going through changing the
letterhead in all instances is there a way to get the
letters to update automatically when I change the
letterhead? My plan was to have the letterhead as an
autotext entry and then put this auto-text entry in a
field code. However the letter doesn't seem to update when
I change the letterhead and name it as the same auto-text
entry.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Glenn.

I am not sure why you would want to update the letterhead for letters that,
presumably, have already been sent. It rather defeats the object of saving
them if you are going to edit them after they have gone; but if you have an
autotext field in the template then update the content of the autotext entry
that the field calls, the changes will be reflected in any document based on
that template that also thus contain the field. You will almost certainly
have to update the fields - either by CTRL+A then F9 or by macro - (see
http://www.gmayor.dsl.pipex.com/installing_macro.htm) in order to see the
changes in the document.
