Auto logout

System is XP Home with no service packs and until I got
involved no AV. Installed McAfee VirusScan which found a
number of viruses and either cleaned or deleted them.

Problem now have is at the logon prompt, if select any of
the users, even ones with admin rights, it briefly logs
them on (can see their wallpaper) and then logs them back
out again.

I suspect this is virus related and is a registry setting
or overwritten file. Have pressed shift key on logon to
hopefully get round a StartUp file.

Have tried safe boot, but same problem.

Without knowing what viruses you had, it's hard to help. The ones you
had may have damaged the operating system badly. Generically, you can
start by doing a Repair Install. Here's a link to instructions:

If that doesn't work, format the drive and clean install Windows,
reinstall programs from cd's and restore data from backups.
