Auto Archiving

Hello,

We have implemented quotas in our Exchnge 2007 environment, and we are
having trouble finding a solid solution to managing service accounts from
going over quota. i've been thinking about using Auto archive and using the
permanently delete old items setting to purge any emails older than for
instance 2 months. What I'm curious about do you need to log onto the accoutn
for the setting to take in effect or is that done automatically with out
requiring to login to the account? Second is there a way to change this in a
GPO or Exchange level?

Also is there another best practice way to managing a service account under
quota? If so i'd be very curious about this process.

Sounds like you are after managed folder mailbox policies. In any event,
this question is best suited for one of the microsoft.public.exchange.*
groups rather than one that deals with Microsoft Outlook.

PS - The auto archive engine in Outlook is a client side thing that requires
someone starting/running Outlook against the mailbox. What I mentioned
about managed folder mailbox policies is more of a server side solution.

I appreciate you directing me to the Exchange threads. i'll give them a shot
and get back with you if there are any options i could look towards for
managing service accounts. In a perfect world i'm looking to be able to have
oldest emails purged in the Inbox before reaching the quota limit. i wonder
if there is such a retention option available.

I believe you are after managed folder mailbox policies ast it is the
closest thing I can think of to Exchange 2003's mailbox manager that
delete/purges items based on age. Just hope I'm right on the guess.
