audio trouble with xp

i put a new harddrive and installed xp on it. i'm
running a 1.8 mhz p4 with 512 megs of ram. my problem
is, i only have sound out of one speaker. i have the
yellow question mark at "Other Devices", and the question
mark and exclamation point under it next to "PCI Simple
Controller". is this a factor?
i have a small set, 'bout 4 years old, of sr-301
speakers with a single jack going into the back of my
computer into the green stereo line out jack recepticle
on the back of the mother board (ECS P4VXASD2+). i have
tried switching the speakers around and they all work.
it is definitely a signal problem (i think).
although i have a radeon video board, i have no separate
audio controller/board. an option?
thanks.

'PCI Simple communications controller' is a function of
your modem i believe, not audio. If you know all speakers
work, you may want to get a separate audio card, since
the onboard may have crapped out.

.
'PCI Simple communications controller' is a function of
your modem, not audio. If you know all speakers work, you
can a) try to look to update the driver from your system
manufacturer, and if that doesn't work, b)you may want to
consider a separate audio card, since the onboard may
have crapped out.
