Audio Problems

I am having all kinds of problems with the audio on my pc after setup
of media center. I am using Media Center 2002 and have all updates
installed. I bought the computer about a year ago, but never setup
media center.

After running the setup for live tv and everything I found that the
live tv audio was not working properly. The audio is present just
very quiet and distorted. You can hear sound, but you can't even hear
well enough to make out words. Initially, I thought the problem was
limited to media center, but after restarting the pc I realized that
system sounds are not working either. The sounds for starting/exiting
windows are present just so quiet that I have to have my speaker on
full blast which should be loud enough to make me go deaf. I have
iTunes and that works perfect.

Media Center does not make any sound when it starts. I only get
navigation sounds on a few windows. I have run the speaker setup and
the speaker test fine within media center.

I have tried doing all updates for the sound card, tv tuner, xp, media
center but have had no luck. I also uninstalled and reinstalled the
sound card multiple times. I am certain the sound is turned up both
in the control panel and on the sound card software. I have tried to
do a system restore back days and weeks, but it always tells me that
no settings have been changed.

I have no other ideas other than reinstalling windows. I would really
prefer not to do this. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

You Know Who ~

how badly do you want or need this media center? It essentially does what
ITunes does.

Is it your audio card or your speakers? Can you put in headphones, and if so,
do they sound OK?

What about other sounds? Can you listen to CDs & DVDs? To audio off the
internet? I'm not sure how your system sounds and Media Center can be broken
but iTunes works OK......

I'd suggest re-installing the audio drivers, but you say you have already
done that. Maybe replacing the audio card - they aren't that expensive.

I'm not sure what the other responder meant by saying Media Center does the
same as iTunes. I guess if you are just after managing audio files it may be
so, but if you are after TV & DVD, it is worth the effort.

To solve your problem; find the nsme of your sound card in Control
Pannel,Devise mgr.
google the following: (Sound card name)vista drivers, Select the latest
update, download, hit run, reboot. waaala! do not use the () above

Interesting idea. He does say that he is using Media Center 2002, by which I
assumed he meant XP 2002 running Media Center Edition 2005. So I'm not sure
why Vista drivers would help?

Yiu are correct Eric. I had the same problem after loading vista and ASUMed
he was using vista. Try using xp(home)or your edition in place of vista

Thanks for the reply.

Right now, media center is the least of my problems. I am not getting
any system sound. I can't get sound in any games either. I followed
the directions for World of Warcraft sound problems and it took me to
the DirectX Diagnostic Tool. When I test the sound in there I don't
get any sounds that use a software buffer, but I do get sounds that
use a hardware buffer.

I would like to get the liveTV and radio sounds working in media
center, but I can live without it.
