Attachment Setting in OE6

Sue

I had several attachments in Outlook Express 6 that were
unopenable. I could see there was an attachment, but it
was grayed-out so it couldn't be opened. I unchecked the
box "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that
could potentially be a virus". Attachments are working
fine now, but changing this setting makes me a bit
uncomfortable. Any thoughts? Thanks!!

hit forward, then save the attachment :)

It's a new security feature to prevent accidental opening of viruses, either
by yourself or scripting. you can disable it in tools | options | security,
but I think the extra effort to hit forward is safer and well worth the
extra click.

Thanks for the response. I agree that the extra step is
well worth the consequences. It made me think of another
question. How does checking this box differ from having
an antivirus software installed on your computer?
