Asus motherboard startup problem

Hello, I've seen that this problem was discussed before but knowing that motherboards differ I thought I would post it in a different thread.
I've recently got a computer with the following specs:
M2NPV-MX mobo
2.1Ghz AMD Phenom X3
8GB RAM 800
400w power source
A Gigabyte video card't load
120GB WD hard-drive

The problem that I have is when I turn the comp on the screen is simply blank and it doesn't load in BIOS. Any help would be appreciated.
Everything is brand new in the comp, just a heads-up.

So the operating system does not boot at all?

Or is it just the fact you can't see the Bios on screen?

I can't see the BIOS.

EDIT: Nothing has been installed yet on it.

Unplug from the mains first & take the graphics card out

use the on-board graphics card

also remove most of the ram, just use two sticks, go for 2gb ... if they 4gig sticks, ignore that last bit

Does it "post" now ?






I'm no fan of integrated graphics on a motherboard = cheap

A few basic questions:

I'm assuming mouse, keyboard and monitor correctly connected.

Is there one beep on switch on (POST)?
If not, are there a series of beeps?
Does the motherboard logo show on the monitor?
Are there any error messages shown on the monitor?
On startup are you tapping the del or F2 key to enter BIOS?
What does this mean: 'A Gigabyte video card't load'
Are the CPU, video card and any case fans fitted coming on at switch-on?

That'll do for now to get some idea.

No. No. No. No. Yes. It was supposed to be "a Gigabyte video card". No.

No fans spinning indicates a likely hardware problem.

My first thought would be to check power supply connections. There is usually a multi-pin connector and a four pin 12V connector - are they both correctly connected?

Plus the video card may need a power connector but don't worry about that for now (see below).

Next, make sure the memory is correctly seated or as Mucks suggested try just one or two sticks instead of all of them.

If the motherboard has onboard graphics try starting without the independent video card.

This is almost certainly poor connections or a faulty component.

Fans spin, one from the processor and an extra one for the case. I re-checked the power supply connections and there are all in place. There are just 2 RAM sticks on the board, both 4GB. I'll try that, I'll have to wait until my house calms down.

Brand new? if so the MB is DOA Return and exchange.

Problem solved, must change the motherboard since it has an AM2+ socket, not AM2 for the Phenom.
