Assign home folder and printers from Home Edition

Hi,

There is a lot of Net-PCs with windows xp home edition out there.

How can we most elegantly have them map to shared network printers and
file shares?

I know that Home isn't built for this, but I just want to know my
options and I have heard that there are many clever ways to get the most
out of the Home edition too...

Thanks for comments on this

There are no supported ways to join a domain in XP Home. It is not suitable
for corporate use. Netbooks are good for traveling users who don't need to
belong to the domain and mostly just need internet access.

You want to do this automatically for a large number?

Or the user manually connect the network printer?

One option

-User map to a share on the print server with user account that has
permission to add the printer
-Browse to printer by using \\servername and clicking the printer to install
it

You may be able to avoid the mapping if you grant group 'Anonymous' group
access to the shared printer. However that means anyone with network access
could print to it (which I wouldn't recommend)

Malcolm.
