information by lifting the printer lid and taking a look at the ink
tanks. If they're obscured, there's a status light on the ink reload
button that will come on when you're low/out of ink in one of the
tanks. That being said, the "ink level" indicator provided by the
drivers just plain doesn't work: It always shows full, even on a
bone dry, empty ink cartridge.
Even when they work, no ink level indicator, for any printer, tells you
anything about the ink level. All it knows is how many pages have been
printed, and it makes a guess about how much ink is left, based on its
statistics for average usage per page.
It may be useful as a very rough indication of remaining ink, but that's
all. One should never rely on it.
