Control Panel Printer Duplicate

In my Windows XP Home edition, when I go to Control Panel>Printers and Faxes,
somehow I've managed to get a duplicate of my Epson Stylus Color 760 printer.
The duplicate is named "Epson Stylus COLOR 760 ESC/P". The one named "Epson
Stylus COLOR 760" is check-marked as the primary printer. When I highlight the
duplicate and delete it, it deletes it OK, but when I restart the computer, XP
says it has found new hardware and re-installs it. How do I get rid of this
duplicate?

Just delete all instances of the Epson and then allow XP to
redetect it. After installing - you can Right Click the printer
and change it's name to anything you'd like. Probably a
result of the printer being plugged into different USB sockets.

Hi Mc and Eric,
Thanks, that did the trick! I had to move my computer some weeks back and must
have plugged the printer into the other USB port by mistake. At the time, I
didn't think it would make any difference but now I can see why!

Epson printer software is very persnickety during
installations. Epson warns its customers to make
sure their printer's USB cable is not connected to
their system during software installation. Once the
software has been installed, reboot, then connect
the printer's USB cable to the system. XP will
then "find" the printer and all will be well with
the world. All bets are off if your Epson printer is
connected during software installation, however.

If you have a previous Epson software installation
on your system (say, for a printer you'll no longer
use), delete that old software and reboot before
attempting to install software for new printer.
Again, make sure the printer is disconnected.

Good luck.
