asms not found on CD

Recently my computer crashed and I had to reformat and
reinstall XP Home Ed. So after I reformat and about
halfway into the installation process, the install stops,
so I restart and try again. This time it said that a file
needed for the install "asms" is not found on the CD and
the setup cannot continue. I asked around and a friend
told me he had the same problem, and it is that XP will
only install from the CD twice or something, and after
that the CD will corrupt itself or something, and I have
to somehow find this file on microsofts website. Well, I
looked for the file in the download center, and I cant
find it. If anyone can point me in the right direction,
it would be most appreciated.

Your "friend" is a grossly misinformed individual! You can install Windows
XP, as many times as you would like - on the same computer!
