WinXP ASMS fix not working!

Hi - I had reason to refresh my install from the CD after
MS error reporting got into a loop with an Iomega .sys
file (it wouldn't stop!). I nuked the Iomega directory
and .sys file after having gotten a couple of blue
screens. Now all I get is one big blue-screen loop, and it
doesn't hold still long enough to see what it's about.
I've gone in through the recovery console and disabled
IOMDISK (.sys) - that was what the original message was
about - but it made no difference. When I do the "install"
option, then choose to repair Windows, I get the ASMS file
message; at that point the system doesn't seem to
recognize either the DVD or CD-ROM drives that are hooked
up (even though it's been using them for the upgrade). I
tried the 311755 fix, and even though it lets me load the
hive and make the changes, no matter how many times I go
through the cycle, it still shows the ASMS message and I
still can't get past it. I've created another install on
the same partition, but I need to have my original install
in working order, again (there's just too much to rebuild
in the original install). Can you help? Thanks.

Hi,

You can try the following. Boot into the Recovery console.
Change to c:\windows\system32\config
Rename system to system.old
copy system from c:\windows\repair
restart the machine.

You may need to reinstall your hardware drivers. This has saved me a couple
of times.
