Unattended Windows XP Pro Installation Error: File 'asms' needed

Hello,

I'm attempting to create an unattended Windows XP Pro installation CD
w/ slipstreamed SP2, but I'm running into a bit of trouble. Immediately
after the graphical Setup Wizard appears, I receive the following
error:

"The file 'asms' on Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 CD is
needed.

Type the path where the file is located, and then click OK.

Copy files from:
[GLOBALROOT\DEVICE\CDROM0\I386]"

The item enclosed in brackets is a dropdown list which allows me to
input text.

To give you a better idea of how I created the CD, I will briefly run
through the steps:

1. I copied the entire content of the Windows XP Pro CD, including the
'asms' folder, to a new folder on my local hard drive.

2. I downloaded the SP2 network installer and integrated it into the
copied Win XP Pro CD content on my hard drive using the -s switch.
Integration went smoothly.

3. I created an answer file with Setup Mgr in the Deploy cabinet on the
Windows XP CD, renamed it to winnt.sif, and copied it into the I386
folder in the Win XP Pro CD content on my local drive.

4. I used IsoBuster to extract the boot image from the original Windows
XP Pro CD and copied it (the "Microsoft Corporation.img" file) to my
local hard drive.

5. I used Nero 7 to create a bootable CD. To be more precise, I started
a new bootable CD using the "Microsoft Corporation.img" file, checked
the enable expert settings checkbox, set Kind of emulation to "No
Emulation", and set Number of loaded sectors to 4. Then, under the ISO
tab, I set File name length to "Max. of 31 chars (Level 2)" and ensured
that "Do not add the ';1' ISO file version extention" was checked.
Then, under the label tab, I changed the Label to "WXPCCP_EN". Then,
under the Burn tab, I checked "Write" and "Finalize disc (No further
writing possible!)", and set the Write Method to "Disc-at-once".

Please let me know if you spot a blatent error in my ways. At this
point I'm a bit at a loss for ideas.

Thanks,

C

Chuck

To clarify step 5, I also copied the entire content of the copy of
Windows XP Pro CD on my local hard drive to the CD.
