Asking for password

When I access my web page using IE I am prompted for my password and user
name just as if I was publishing it. This has happened to other visitors
as well but not for everybody. iIt could be a IE setting or a FP setting.
Problem for me only occurred after I transfered the web to my new computer
and reinstalled Frontpage.

Any ideas?

Hi Grinder,

It is a server permissions setting. Contact your ISP / WPP.

It appears to only apply when attempting to access document links. It does
not happen when attempting to view photo links on the page.

Yeah, see that was the critical piece of information you left out of your
first post.

That's a Office Service Pack issue, not a web server issue. (Hint: does it
open anyway if you hit cancel?)

Some versions of Office assume you are working on an INTRANET not the
INTERNET, and try to open the document in "read/write" access... (thus the
password).

It's fixed in later service packs, and must be fixed on each PC accessing
file. (You might be better off just instructing users to "right-click and
save as" next to the links, as upgrading a SR is not something most regular
users do.)

KB article here:

I followed your advice and installed the SR-1A Service pack. No longer asks
for my user name and password when accessing the documents. But continues
to do so when I click "back" after reviewing the document.

Thanks for your help getting this far.
