I am using frontpage 2003 on windows XP home edition and when trying to
publish web site it constantly asks for password and login which i know are
correct. i have tried changing user authentication to prompt for user name
and password in internet explorer which it suggests on knowledge base but
still doesn't work. the service provider assures me that frontpage extensions
are installed correctly etc. any ideas would help - many thanks

They are probably incorrect when they say the extensions are installed
normally.

Ask them to reinstall (remove but retain files) and see what happens.

80% of the time, the problem you are having is due to permissions in the
folders having been messed up by someone toying with them in the file
system, something you typically do not need to be doing with FP.

Though, you should probably remove all temp files (your temp folder in
windows, and your temp folder for frontpage, and delete all .web files on
the computer). That might fix the other 20% probability.

no still having a problem even though they have done that

i am wondering whether i have correct server extensions - i am running fp
2003 but only have fp2000 server extensions installed

also within fp2003 when u go to TOOLS the server is greyed out

is there an upgrade to fp2002 server extensions

i have also tried an ftp program and it does the same asks for login and
password repeatedly so am wondering whether its my computer to do with
something else i am missing

do you mean that when you try to publish to the web or open the web live
it's asking for your server UN/PW?
have you checked the box for "remember my un/pw" on the dialog? If so, are
you by chance using the "Helm" control panel?

some hosts use a control panel called "helm".
I have it on one of my reseller server accounts.
for some reason helm simply will not hold the un/pw.
a telltale way is if your assigned UN has _fp at the end of it.
that's another helm characteristic.
