/_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe ???

My question is similar to one that was posted yesterday.

I re-published my site (in FP 2003) last Saturday after adding two password
protected PowerPoint shows.

While checking my web statistics this morning, I noticed that visitors
viewed a page named /_vti_bin/_vti_aut/author.exe.

Curious what kind of page this would be, I clicked on it. I was then asked
for my user name and password. After entering the required information, the
following message came up:
method=
status=
• status=262147
• osstatus=0
• msg=No "CONTENT_TYPE" in CGI environment.
• osmsg=

The web statistics lists a second mysterious page:
/_vti_bin/shtml.exe/_vti_rpc
Clicking on it leads to the same message, this time without asking for user
name and password.

Is there a connection between these pages and the added password protected
pps?
Clueless in NM,

author.exe is accessed any time you open the site directly in FP.

Thanks, Thomas, this makes sense.

But what does /_vti_bin/shtml.exe/_vti_rpc mean, the second mysterious page
on my web statistics?
