Archiving (deleting) deleted items after a certain time

We're using Outlook 2003 on Windows XP at work. I want to program the
archiving of my Deleted items folder to get rid of messages older than a
month (kind of delayed cleaning, in case I deleted something by mistake). I
don't want to archive any other folder. I use the same procedure than I did
with Outlook 2000 on Windows 2000, but the results are different. The
Deleted items folder never empties, but before it did. Can somebody shed
some light on the problem?

The settings are: In the properties of the Deleted items folder, I chose the
third option, to delete items older than a month, and its third sub-option,
to get rid of them definitively. In Outlook's options, I asked to archive
every day, and to suppress expired items.

If you manually trigger archiving from the File menu do the settings work as
expected?

Yes I tried a manual trigger (first option: automatic settings for each
folder) after you suggested it, and it doesn't work either (although I see
in the status bar that some archiving is taking place, among them I see the
Deleted items folder flashing quickly).

Help somewhere mentions that archiving cannot be executed on messages for
which a "do not archive" checkbox is checked. None of the messages is in
this situation.

Can anybody at least confirm that this procedure works for them?

It works for me.

The messages in question were deleted more than the number of archiving days
ago, right?

Yes they are older than the number of archiving days. I even changed the
archiving period from 1 day to 3 months and many in-betweens, but no go. And
except for very old messages I just recently deleted I can see that the
accumulation of deleted messages started in October, just at the time I
switched computer, OS and Outlook (I copied the pst file from one computer
to the other at that time). Sure I can empty the deleted items folder
manually, but that's not the point of the exercise.

Anyhow, for me and everybody in the office Outlook 2003 is NOT an
improvement over Outlook 2000. Others have various other issues as well.

Oups, sorry for the double post of the previous message, somehow my first
attempt hadn't got into my newsreader.
