AOL 9.0 and anti-virus

AOL 9.0 Optimized seems to be pushing McAfee A-V, which is fine, but I'm
perfectly happy with Norton A-V 2003, and I don't care to change. The
suggestion I've seen however is that if you want your e-mail and attachments
scanned, you should uninstall Norton and use their McAfee instead.

I have asked two different Help people there, and I got two answers there. One
is that AOL scans all mail for viruses, period. The other is that the mail will
go unscanned if you do not choose to go along with the McAfee advice.

Anyone know for sure what's going on there?

You're lucky that the number of answers corresponded with the number of
people, sometimes asking two people will result in three answers or none
at all. That's without even taking into account the validity of any of
those answers. <g>

This is correct. It is scanned on their server, so which AV you use on
you PC has no bearing on anything.

The email IS scanned by McAfee at the server, regardless of what you have
Norton do, downloading mail to your computer. AOL is pushing McAfee for
Instant Messenger, ICQ or file downloads from the Internet.

They also appear to be selling McCrappy licenses for the client. The
scariest words in the English language: McAfee Antivirus, brought to you
by AOL. Your registry will never be the same.
