Anyone received Vista disks from Moduslink?

J

James Truelove

I have register upgrade on Moduslink site and received order number
confirmation email. I have sent scan of receipt to required email address
but although my COA status is showing as validated on their website, I am
not seeing shipping date or anything which confirms they have ackowledged
reciept received!

I have emailed them a couple of times, again today, but so far have only
received automated email saying my mail would be answered within 48 hours.

I realise the demand on this upgrade process must be great but surely this
must have been expected by Moduslink and their customer Microsoft?

I am concerned it will just not be shipped!

Not a very good customer experience for me, perhaps I should not have
purchased my laptop until they were being sold complete with Vista pre
installed. I guess I was fooled by sales hype that a free upgrade would
follow!

I purchased my Acer from Currys, they are no longer interested now they have
my £sd

I'm also in the UK and awaiting my upgrade, having purchased MCE 2005 back
in November. I can't remember when I actually succeeded in completing my
order because there were several problems with the Moduslink website so it
took 2-3 weeks to finally place my order. I did need to contact them to get
my COA reset as something did appear to go very wrong at one point..

On 5th December I had my order confirmed by email.

On 22nd Feb they confirmed Proof Of Purchase by email and stated I should
get my upgrade in 4-6 weeks.

On 7th March they emailed to say my order had shipped.

On 14th March I received an invoice for my upgrade in a letter but no
upgrade DVD. The letter came from The Netherlands. It was just a flimsy
envelope and not big enough to hold a DVD in a case. I am still awaiting my
DVD. They said to allow three weeks from despatch. I can't imagine what kind
of shipping process takes three weeks for a DVD but that's my story so far.

The emails stated that if my order does not arrive in the indicated
timeframe that I need to make contact before 1st May to chase up. After 1st
May they say they may not be able to help. I guess if it's not here by the
end of March then I need to start chasing. Right now they are still within
the timeframe set out in their emails so there is not much point chasing.

Mike, did you get an invoice and the upgrade DVD separately? Where did the
DVD ship from - USA, Europe?

Likewise I am in the UK. So if my order was confirmed on 9th March I have some
time to wait!

Thanks for your post, I now know what to expect.

No confirmation of them getting my receipt that I faxed and scanned then
e-mailed. (Sony did not require that you send Modus the original)
I received this e-mail 3 days before my DVD arrived.

"...
Thank you for submitting your Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit CD/DVD OEM.
Your validation is now complete and we will be processing your order. You
should receive your order within 4-6 weeks and receive email confirmation
when your order is shipped. At any time you may also go to
https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vista/Sony or email us at
(e-mail address removed) to check on your order.
If you do not receive your order within the time frame specified, please
notify us prior to May 1, 2007 for English language versions of the product
and June 1, 2007, for non-English language versions of the product so that
we may investigate and ship your order. After those dates we may not be able
to process your request.

I ordered upgrade on 14th Feb, and after numerous emails back and forth and
sending numerous copies of proof of purchase etc., I received an email on
21st Feb saying they would be emailing me when validation is confirmed. On
the website it said order confirmed. I have checked today and it now says
Order is approved.

Anyone know how many more weeks before I reach the next stage to say my
order is being shipped!

My computer was bought via a customise your own computer centre, I have paid
£10.06 for post, packing and taxes, so have no idea where it is coming from.
It is intersting though that people all seem to be paying different amounts
for p & p for the same disk!

Thanks

Are you sure you paid for the shipping and handling? If so it may be
on its way. My Visa has not yet been charged the shipping and
handling.

I go to the website and check every so often, nice to know I not the
only one waiting! I really wonder now what they will be shipping is
it an upgrade to the OEM Windows XP Pro I bought or is it the OEM
Vista Version? I really do not want to go through another complete
install.

Further update to the above : It is now 14 days since Moduslink claim that
my upgrade shipped and still there is no sign of my DVD. This was for a
vanilla OEM copy of Vista Home Premium, not one from Dell/HP/Acer etc.. I
struggle with the notion that my disc is still in transit after two weeks. I
know they're still within their stated timeframe (up to three weeks) but how
is it possible to make something travel as slowly as this upgrade disc? It
shouldn't take two weeks from anywhere in the world, certainly not at £10.06
just for P&P. It's a pity Moduslink doesn't provide tracking information.

I also have another Vista upgrade due, from Dell, and today I got a despatch
notice for that shipment and a DHL tracking number. It is shipping from
Plymouth, MN - USA. This is for a laptop I bought at the end of January,
with the Vista upgrade order confirmed on 3rd Feb. It wouldn't surprise me
if the Dell upgrade arrives before the Moduslink copy. Hopefully Dell is at
least using four legged donkeys for their deliveries. Mind you, as Dell are
charging £11 for P&P I guess the delivery should be a good bit quicker.
Fingers crossed ;)

Mine came about a week after shipment ; delivered by/through Royal Mail
although it looked like US origin.

Today, 26th March, both my upgrade DVDs arrived. So that's just 6 days for
the Dell upgrade to arrive, from the USA, with tracked and signed for DHL
delivery.

The Moduslink upgrade took 19 days to arrive and was apparently posted from
Southall, about 50 miles from me, with paperwork enclosed with a Moduslink
Hungary address. With logistics like that it is no wonder Moduslink are
frustrating people. They appear to be entirely clueless.

Congratulations on getting your upgrade. I just checked my order on
Moduslink and it has gone from being approved to cancelled. I have
asked for an explanation. The only thing I can think of is that my
e-mail address had a 1 letter spelling error but I had sent them
e-mail weeks ago to correct that.

I am beginning to wonder if it pays to be honest.

An update: Moduslink replied to my e-mail telling me that they
cancelled the order AS PER MY REQUEST and they want me to re-apply. I
made no such request! They still have my order online as well as all
the information and documentation and they want me to re-apply. I
have told them to re-instate the order and I will see how they respond
to that.

Where does Microsoft find these incompetent companies to farm out
their promotions.

Don't hold your breath I got that response from them on 5th March and
also sent them copies of the original documentation. Guess what they
have not even had the courtesy to reply. According to their e-mail
earlier I should have my copy of Vista by 5th April at the latest. If
it is not here by then I shall send another query, and another and
another untill I get something.

I did get another e-mail from them telling me they can't do it any
other way, I have to re-start the order. I have done that now and
will send copies of the documentation to them tomorrow. What I did
notice is that I was not given the option to upgrade to the 64bit
business version as I was the first time. I guess the 32bit version
is better than nothing. My AMD X2 64 bit cpu will not be happy. :-(

They also told me that by applying at this time would not change the
delivery date: "Note that your order will be processed at
approximately the same time as all other orders for your manufacturer
received to date. This issue will not significantly impact the time
frame for delivery."

I guess custom built computers are at the bottom of the pile.
