AntiSpyware removes XP2 Firewall !!!!

Don't Install AntiSpyware - YET

Their Anti-Spyware just removed my Firewall!

I had to do a system restore to get it all working again.

It also removed our Net Nanny search function.

I'm a little apprehensive about reinstalling the software!

This (AntiSpyware removes XP SP2 firewall) is not a generally true
statement. I just installed MS Windows AntiSpyware on three different
Windows XP SP2 machines with the firewall enabled and all three went very
smoothly.

Or better still, stick with SpyBot, Adaware, A², and
Firefox. That way, you are guaranteed minimal to no
problems at all.

Heh. The firewall thing is an anomaly, but it SHOULD be
messing with censoring software. Leagues worse than any
normal spyware, and a violation of basic human rights.

Very happy for you.

However, my version of did not go smoothly and I'm
picking there will be more posts to this newsgroup
regarding the same issue.

Hoepfully the development team reads this and will
provide a fix :)

A simple search in these newsgroups will reveal the
same 'firewall' problem emerging amongst a growing number
of users.

I'm sure Microsoft would not want to distribute their
new 'spyware' software knowing that in many cases it
removes the key 'firewall' security feature in their main
Windows OS??

I have also had this problem. It has ecouraged me to load
Zone Alarm and forget the XP SP2 firewall.

I had the same problem on two of my machines. I resolved
the issue by re-installing SP2. Afterwards both the
firewall and the spyware software work fine.

I don't know if it removed my Windows Firewall. How would you know?

However my Windows Firewall won't stick in the "On" position now. After I
reboot my computer it resets to "Off".

It had one fatal crash (access violation) while I was playing around with
Settings.

Otherwise it seems to work generally OK. It found a couple of items that
Ad-Aware and Spybot-S&D didn't find. I put them in quarantine.

I'm not sure, however, if I should keep it. Might be a little risky. So I
may use the System Restore point I made just before installation and wait
for a future improved version.

Correction: I intentionally had the Security Center disabled in Services,
but forgot about it, which is why Windows Firewall wouldn't stick in the On
position in that dialog box. Sorry about the erroneous report. MS
AntiSpyware beta was not involved.

FWIW, Windows Firewall/ICS was on automatic and was actually running all the
time in Services! I had also intentionally made that setting too, awhile
back, but forgot about it.

In this firewallthread it appears osme have and others
have not resolved the problem. I am one of those whohave
NOT been able toresolve theissue. Tried whatever little I
could after going into security services and ensuring
theat firewall was on automatic etc ...but still no
avail .
I have since then uninstalled the beta ...but my firewall
refuses to come back.
So dear all any ideas most aprreciated. WIll be watching
this space.
