variable browser hijack

Oz

After removing various forms of cwshredder such as
cws.svchost32, cws.smartsearch and cws.jksearch using
cwshredder software(freeware)spyware was still present on
the computer.
Microsoft antispyware froze(100% cpu usage aswell) half
way through scanning during scanning memory for variable
browser hijack and deleted spyware reappeared.
hijack this(freeware) was unable to restore nor delete
permanently the damaging effects of the spyware which I
have a sneaking suspicion it has lodged itself in the
system registry.
I have searched for any suspicious registry entries but
alas no luck.
I also check the host file which is locked and managed
Hostman and deleted, corrected corrupted entries.
I have not visited any porn or related sites and the
software I have installed is freeware.
Also I have not downloaded/installed any active x cpts
but I suspect they installed silently.
I have the latest updates installed for xp pro.
I am at a lost as to what to do to remove this
unidentified spyware.
Any help, suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

ps have tried to submit a report with Microsoft
antispyware but error occurred.

First get Ewido Security Suite and probably Ccleaner
would also be usefull here and update Ewido in normal
mode then reboot to safe mode(Reboot and keep tapping F8)
and run a full system scan with CWShredder,MSAS & Ewido
then Ccleaner if you download it and reset the web
settings, (Control Panel > Internet Options > Programs
tab > reset web settings) Also goto the general tab and
enter the homepage you wish to use into the address box
and press apply. Then clear your temp files and prefetch
files (Start then run and type %temp%, Start then run and
type prefetch) and delete the contents of both but
Ccleaner should take care of most of this . Then reboot
back to normal mode and see if you still have a problem

If you do then post the Hijack This log from your system
in normal mode and I will try help more.

CWS.Smartkiller removal tool

Use this if antispy app's are closing when you open them
(Maybe not needed but just to be safe :)
