Ms Anti Spyware Compatibility with XP Home 64 Bit

R

Ralph C. Scott

I have installed the MS Antispyware program on both of my
computers. Both run XP, the first with a 64 bit system,
the second with a 32 bit system.

The program itself works wonders and has increased the
speed and security of both of my systems.

On the 64 bit system though my firewall is disabled until
I both remove the antispyware program and restore my
system to a time before it was installed.

When I attempt to turn on the firewall I receive the
following message:

Windows fire wall settings cannot be displayed because
the associated service is not running. Do you want to
start the Windows Firewall/internet Connecton sharing
(ICS) service?

Windows cannot start the Windows Firewall/Internet
Connection Sharing (ICS) Service.

This is not a problem with the 32 Bit system.

I have since installed the McAfee virus scan and firewall
system on both systems and the fire wall from that seems
to be working fine but the windows fire wall still cannot
be detected or turned on the 64 bit system.

If this is the only problem I look forward to full
version being released. I had over 60 spyware threats on
my 64 bit system despite all of the security I had
previously had in place and only 2 on my 32 bit system

This is not a 64 bit issue, I believe.

It may be a spyware removal issue.

I would try the standard "firewall down after spyware removal on XP SP2" fix
on the 64-bit system:

At a command prompt:

netsh winsock reset

and hit enter

See if that takes care of it. If not--please write back--there's no
inherent compatibility issue.
