SPRODER.DLL

If you are using McAfee Products along with Microsoft
AntiSpyware software, you will have to ignore WebHence
(sporder.dll). If you allow the AntiSpyware software to
remove this entry, your windows internet connection will
not work, your McAfee products wont work.

If you already removed this entry, the only way repair
this problem is to run a system restore to a previous
date before you installed Microsoft's AntiSpyware
software. Once you restore your operating system to its
existing state, re-install Microsoft's AntiSpyware
software (you will notice all settings you previous setup
in the program will remain), rescan your system once
again, and hit IGNORE ALWAYS for WebHence (sporder.dll).

Also, you should always check the box create a restore
point before removing any spyware or detected entries!!!

Jester77 is correct. When the sporder.dll is deleted, it
causes a complete melt-down of the Mcafee installation
and WILL prevent any further access to the internet until
fixed (which makes it hard to look for a fix!).

One additional point: I believe the sporder.dll is
specifically associated with the McAfee "Privacy Service"
software, not the other pieces such as VirusScan or
Firewall (although I am not an expert, so you should
confirm this on your own with McAfee or others).

I found that I could restore is simply by extracting the
sporder.dll from a .cab file I had for the McAfee
software; or I supposed you could simply copy the file
(perhaps from another machine or disk). It should be
placed into the windows\system32 directory (if you are
running Windows XP). I don't know if this is completely
Kosher or could cause other problems, but it worked for
me. Uninstalling / reinstalling McAfee is a nightmare
best avoided if you can.

Hope this helps.

If some of us are not as gifted to have that .dll handy
does anyone know where you can get it? Mcafee's website
is an install by default website and i'm not able to d/l
the .cab file.

Thx

Man, I wish I'd have read this before! You're absolutely
right. I should have suspected it was a false positive
when I saw it was a Microsoft file. I did the reinstall
of McAfee stuff and that fixed but that was an hour of my
life I'll never get back!

Accaparant (and others):

The only thing I can thing of is to contact McAfee
(easiest is via webchat in their support section) and see
if they will have pity and send you the sporder.dll
through the chat. I'm guessing they may resist, but it
is worth a try to save you hours of reinstall!

Good luck,
