Anti-virus problems ?

A

Arnold

I currently use norton and it seems like something is
wrong with it.

I click on options and it says " Norton Antivirus has
encountered an internal program error." I try to go to
the support site and it never loads.

I also try to update my antivirus but it says

"LiveUpdate downloaded all of the updates you requested,
but all of them failed to install. Please try to get the
updates at a later time.
LiveUpdate session is complete."

They failed to install because it tried to overwrite a
file that was in use.

Are these problems related? Cause it seems like something
disrupted my antivirus program and i may encounter a virus
without even knowing. Thanks a bunch!

I have come across this problem a couple of times before.

One was a virus blocking the anti-virus from working. Ran
a boot scan, which cleared problem.

Also had same problem following both a Norton update
(programme) and Windows update. The cure I found for this
was to uninstall the anti virus and also (having backed
up the registry) remove from the registry all mentions of
Symantec (this assumes no other Symantec software
installed). Then reinsall and everything worked fine.

The only problem with this is that the definitions are
also lost and could be very out of date. It may be worth
downloading the manual install ones for reinstallation.

Hope this helps.
