Symantic left-overs

I suspect that left-overs from having Norton Antivirus may be causing
problems. My ISP used to provide Norton security suite. They (AT&T) have
changed to McAfee. As McAfee security was installed, they first removed
Norton. But LiveUpdate Notice (Symantec Corp.) is still on my XP Pro
computer. Can I remove it? When I try to install eBook from the CD that
came with "Windows XP Inside/Out," I get a message that says
"C:\Progra~1\Symantec\S32EVNT.DLL," and continues "An installable Virtual
Device Driver failed Dll initialization."

LiveUpdate can be removed in add/remove programs in control panel. Also, go
out to Symantec's site and get the Symantec Removal Tool for whichever
version you were running. That will help clean up any loose ends.

Download and run the Norton Removal Tool
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...pen&docid=2003120216280806&nsf=nav.nsf&view=0

Warning: The Norton Removal Tool uninstalls "all" Norton
2009/2008/2007/2006/2005/2004/2003 products installed on your PC.
If you use ACT! or WinFAX, back up those databases before you proceed.

So for example if you still have Ghost and System Works installed,
and you want to remove the last traces of Norton Anti-Virus or
Live Update not removed when you uninstalled it via
Add/Remove programs, this tool has the unfortunate
side effect of removing any and "all" other Symantec products
installed on your PC (Ghost, System Works, Etc) also.

Symantec LiveUpdate and LiveReg are not uninstalled when a Norton/Symantec
application is uninstalled. You can uninstall them via Control Panel >
Add/Remove Programs.

If you have any issues either trying to uninstall them or after they are
uninstalled, download/run the Symantec Removal Tool from the link below per
the instructions on the page. Take note in that if you have any other
Norton/Symantec applications installed they will be uninstalled/removed as
well, save any settings for the installed application(s) if you plan to
reinstall.
