Donationware - a waste of time.
For those thinking of going down this route here are some figures.
Program 1 - 40,000+ downloads, 2 donations.
Program 2 - 30,000+ downloads, 1 donation.
Both programs were very popular and generated a lot of email traffic with nearly 2000 joining the mailing lists. The appeals for donations were very prominent in the readme, help file and about box and I only asked for $5 or more. I am busy converting both programs to shareware now.
I am not going to post the url,s because I don't want them showing up in searches later on.
Anon

One of them were Autoclip Express; the other I don't know.

The other was: HyperExplorer 2.0
a File System Bookmark Manager that allows you to navigate your disks and folders with unprecedented ease. As well as a unique book marking system, HyperExplorer is a dual window file manager almost identical to Windows Explorer.

Well spotted. Those of us with the last freeware builds now know we
have to look after them. :)

Honesty, back in my mind that was sort of expected for that
two pieces. Sometimes you can just tell by the design of the
interface. The one that is going to make the commercial route
real soon (and freeware for short, just to get testers)
usaully have kind of a "nice", relatively bulky interface with
kind of lousy keyboarding suport (unless it is GPL from the
start). And you can also sometimes tell by the look of the
site, too. Look at Xnews, its interface, and that is how I
feel anyway.

What I mean it's that 2.1 was still freeware, I'm looking for that version.
Look at the program history:
http://hyperexplorer.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/history.htm

1.0 is initial release and 2.1 is last freeware release.
From 2.11 HyperExplorer is shareware.

Best regards.

This is the last freeware build:

Just from reading between the lines, you can tell that the programer of
Autoclip Express is very disappointed that he did not receive more money.
You can also tell that he was looking for money by just how quickly he
responded to the downloads versus donation ratio.

The fact is from the newest version release date to the day it was
pulled, was way too short for some people to even try the program or even
consider a donation??? He would have more then likely received other
donations as he continued developed and then could have offered a
Shareware version which could have had more capabilities / functions.

The way it was handled leaves a sour tastes in one's mouth. Using the
program will remind one of this feeling from now on.

Hope the programer of Autoclip Express finds a way to make the money he's
desperately looking for.

What is the most current freeware version? I've been looking
for a clipboard extender. Thinking of Yankee Clipper but would
be good to compare them.

Here's what I have found so far in the world of free clipboard tools

clcl
hamsin clipboard
autoclip express
arsclip
clipomatic
yankee clipper 3 (4 wont be free, if i decode the new site correctly)

they have all a slightly different focus and are worth spending a
week with to see which suits your work style best
