Annoying pop-up tips/information "balloons" in Win XP

L

Lolly

How do I go about disabling the annoying pop-up ballons
with instructions/information/tips whenever my mouse
passes over icons on the desktop or commands in a drop-
down menu? I don't even know what to call them to look
for them in the index. Your help will be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks, to elaborate:

Disable Balloon Tips or Disable All (Row 11)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Disable All includes: Balloon Tips, Folder Contents Info Tips, Explorer
Pop-Ups, Show Info Tips, Start Menu and Notification Area.

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

get powertoys, can disable that, much better than a reg hack. It's a gui
that allows you to change lots of things.

Yup, there's that too but I do not believe that helps with info poups, such
as your internet connecting...

Tom,

TweakUI, only disables Balloon Tips, there are many more. And yes, while
most are doable via the GUI, many posters don't know where to find them all.
The edit combines them all, quick and sweet.

An added note: Balloon Tips does not disable: info tips that hover the
Quick Launch, Start Button or Task Bar area, only the Notification Area.
