annoying bug: balloons pop behind taskbar

there's a long standing annoying bug in xp pro sp2: occasionally the
balloon or popup tip disappears or pops up behind the task bar. The only
way to fix it seems to be a reboot or to uncheck "keep taskbar in front
of other windows". Moving the taskbar to the top or sides also fixes it,
but moving it back to the bottom (like 99% of users do) and the tip
disappears behind the taskbar again.

anyone knows of a cure?

A permanent cure? No. But, I have a big box of band-aids that fixes
the problem, until it occurs again. :)

Go to Start / All Programs / right click on any program and choose
Sort by Name. That should fix it for the time being. After doing this,
if it appears you still have a problem with the first icon you place
the cursor over, move to another icon, and then back to the first
icon. It sounds weird, but it will make sense after a while, and it is
the fastest band-aid fix I have found (it takes me less than 15
seconds to do). This works on the 3 computers I have with XP on them.

There is also a bug with your clock: You're posting in the future.

Hey, good catch! I posted my reply 26 minutes before he asked the
question... and my wife says I'm not special. LOL

There are some workarounds: http://www.tech-pro.net/howto_018.html

Avoid using the Show Desktop shortcut (Windows+D) as this often causes the
problem to occur. Use Minimize All Windows (Windows+M) instead.

Don't use "Keep the taskbar on top of other windows". Right-click the
taskbar, select properties, clear the check box for this option and then
click OK.

If you prefer to keep the taskbar on top of other windows, then deselecting
this option as described above, and then reselecting it again, restores the
correct window order and brings the tooltips back to the front, until the
next time!
