I have followed these instructions but the balloon tips still appear.
Anything else to try?

-- .... Click Start > Run
..... Type regedit
..... Navigate to :
<HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced>
..... Create a new "Reg_Dword" value named "EnableBalloonTips" with data 0

When I move the mouse over icons or favorite places links or links
within the displayed page and instructional or web address is
displayed in a small pop up ballon. Can this feature be disabled?
What is it (are they) called?

Hi jj,
Try this Open the Run command and type:
regedit.exe click [OK]
On the registry eidtor locate the same HKEY:

[+]
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced
While clicking or highlighting the * Advanced* SubFolder look in the
Right-Side-Pane and locate this and Right click on it and select Edit:
[ ]ShowInfoTip REG_DWORD 0x0000001 (0)
[(value 1 to Enable it) or (value 0 to Disable it that what you want)]

Hope this what you are after.
Please let us know.
Regards,
nass
