Annoying Logon Change

I am running Windows XP Home Edition, and I have my computer go to a password
protected welcome screen when my computer starts up. When I used to do this,
the welcome screen would load, and I could just start typing my password.

Now, some setting has changed, and I have to click on my name before typing
(as if there were another account name being displayed on the welcome screen
- which there isn't).

The guest account is not on, and there are no other accounts on my computer,
so why did this change, and what can I do to make it like it used to be?

Thanks!

Add ed any security software lately, or make changes to other passwords on
your system? If not, try a system restore to when this worked last.

I haven't installed any security programs other than SP2, but the problem
occurred before I installed that. About the passwords, there are no other
accounts on the computer except mine. And concering system restore, this
change happened MONTHS ago, and I have since deleted the restore points.

Any other ideas?

It happened months ago, and now it bothers you?

Anyway, try turning off the welcome screen, reboot, then turn it back on
again, then reboot, to see if that will change it.

Nope, nothing changed.

And to answer your question, no, this has been bothering me since it first
happened, but I didn't learn about these help newsgroups until today.

Type in start/run 'control userpasswords2' (no quotes), then hit OK. In the
applet, under the Users tab, see if the box "Users must enter a user name
and password to use this computer" is checked. If it isn't, check it, then
try again.

It was already checked. I unchecked it and checked it again, then restarted.
Same problem.

Try this first,

Try turning on Fast User Switching

If nothing:

What do you get if you turn off the Welcome screen (does your name default
in the box)?

It has been turned on this whole time. When I turned off the welcome screen,
I believe it just said "Owner" or something like that for the name.
