Always take this action checkbox

When I insert a thumb drive or CD, the op system asks me what I want
to do with the files on that device. It used to include a checkbox at
the bottom of the dialog box asking if I always want to perform that
same action each time. Now my machine does not give me that option
because the checkbox is missing. Anyone know why?
