All of the xp updates are just too much for dial up internet !!

There are so many updates and Service packs that it would
be impossible to download these on a dial up internet
provider. I recently built a computer for my daughter and
all she can afford is dial up. I hate giving this system
to her without the updates installed. If they were
already on the system then maybe it would not be such an
impossible task to keep up with the (weekly, daily,
hourly) updates on XP home edition with dial up. Is there
a cd with this on it? Is there a list of just the
necessary ones or is there a cummulative one thus so far?
I do have cable high speed service and would be happy to
download them into a file and burn a cd to put them on
her system but wheres the list of whats needed. I tryed
using her system to go to the update site and do a system
scan but after 45 minutes we just gave up on that idea. I
know what some are thinking, why not get a faster
internet provider, however she doesn't currently have
bill gates resources at her disposal. Any info would be
very much appreciated.

SP1a is good for starters.
Then there are the Windows Media Player and I.E. cummulative patches, as I
recall.
Look through the list of critical updates, and install only those that
apply to her operation; many are for Networks.
It is not necessary to install ALL updates, and may even be detrimental.

Others may have thoughts; stay tuned to this thread.

Why not just hook her comp up to your connection and
download them with your cable?

you have high speed cable if youre running xp and have
all the updates they will be listed in add/remove under w
and windows xp hotfixes

the site www.microsoft.com/downloads has a search
feature once you have written down the numbers of the
updates you have you can download them to your desktop
and then burn them to cd and install on youre daughters
machine.

You can download the updates and burn them to CD. Open Windows updates and
from the left menu choose Personalize Windows updates. You download and save
the updates to hard drive and then burn the files to a CD.
