All I Get are .nv!'s with Net Transport

Goal: Download asf video with known url

After reading here about getting a video of the BBC website, I tried
to try Net Transport on another live-streaming website. I loaded the
player and found the url. Now, the problem with Net Transport is that
there is no STOP button. Fine. I tried either pausing the download
as well as running the task as a scheduled program. Anyway, in either
case something does download.

Unfortunately, all I get are names like streamedfile.asf.nv!. From my
understanding, .nv! are Net Transport's temporary files. However,
that is all I get. Net Transport never changes this to
streamedfile.asf. Playing the .nv! file does nothing as Windows Media
Player claims this is not a valid media file.

I also tried GetASFStream, but it was not reliable. Because
GetASFStream is translated from Chinese, it was difficult for me to
know if I was using the proper procedure.

So, if anybody can help me with the Net Transport's .nv! file issue or
GetASFStream, or know a better program to capture .asf files, please
respond.

Thank you.

I use a combination of URL Snooper2 and WM Recorder 8.0 or a download
manager. It works for most files. For Real media I get the ra url from the
ram file.

Give me the URL of the live streaming site you tried and I will see how I
go.

Have the downloads ever been reported as finished by Net Transport?
As long as the download is not finished you get an .nv! file.

Just rename the file to .asf
I regularly use Net Transport to record a Windows Media stream. I
just knock the end off the filename and add .wma. It works fine

Not sure if the application & stream is legal or not(probably not), so
for those who are offended, stop reading. Basically, the program which
seems to have originated in China and rebroadcasts foreign tv shows.
When you run the app, it sets up a proxy. Then, the video is viewed via
Windows Media Player or Real Player. Right now, I want to capture the
WMP's asf.

Here is a translated instructions/tv schedule:

http://www.streamsports.net/pplive.html

So, if I want to capture 4 hours of soccer/football, Net Transport does
not seem to work.

I believe the nv! files issue is caused by switching the saved-to
directory to a subfolder within Net Transport. After reinstalling the
program and selecting a new directory for the save files, Net Transport
does save it as an asf file, but it does not always play.

From further investigation, it appears that Net Transport ONLY WORKS WHEN
THE SERVER'S STREAM STOPS. So, if a video is complete or if they have a
crash/problem, the video is viewable. However, if you try to save a
portion of a continuous stream, you get a file that is unplayable. I
tried fixing the file with ASF tools, but it does not work.

Unless somebody knows something more about Net Transport, I am going to
rule it as unacceptable for this task.

Is WM Recorder 8.0 free? Only version found via Google was a pay version
from the makers of Replay Radio. Where might I find 8.0? Also, if
anybody here know of a better procedure and/or video capture program,
please feel free and reply.

Program has no stop function and I am trying to capture a portion of a
continuing stream, so I want it to stop on-demand. I think I figured out
the .nv! issue, but the captured asf files are pretty much worthless
anyway because they are not playable.

Renaming to .asf did not work, but I think I can run a schedule to get an
asf. Problem is that the .asf file does not even work. I can try
renaming it to .wma, though my guess it will not help the situation.

I don't know whether WMR would work for what you want.
Older freeware versions are here:
