after installing/deinstalling XPS viewer no DVD burner available

Dear all
I am not sure if this is the right forum.
Here is my problem:
I have WinXP-Pro SP3 and IE6 and recently I received some .xps files from a
friend.
To open them I first installed the ms xps viewer from here
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/xps/viewxps.mspx
but that didn't work. I always received an error message when opening the
xps files.
Then I installed the ms xps essentials pack from the same site and that
always gave me an error message during installation.
The main problem is that after that installation my Nero7 burning sw does
not recognize my DVD-burner and my CD-burner anymore. Both drives are
recognized in windows explorer and I can read files from these drives
without problems. But Nero always reports that no burner is installed.
I already reinstalled nero but the problem remains.
I also deinstalled the two drives via the device manager and let windows
detect tthem as new hardware.
Windows detects them correctly and reinstalles both drives but nero still
does not recognize one a as burner.
What can I do to get my burning devices for nero again?
Please help!
Regards
Peter

Many Thnaks for your answer!
Why should I install that Nero7 version from your link?
My Nero7 version was working fine with my burners before I installed the ms
xps stuff.

You can re-install Nero 7 using your own CD but I suspect it may not be
up-to-date. The reason you have to re-install Nero is because by
uninstalling a particular software, the uninstaller has inadvertently
removed shared drivers as well.

You need to get back to Nero as it was before so that everything works.

To view or to create XPS files you only needed to install dot Net
Application Frameworks version 3.0 or 3.5 and these allow you to view
XPS files in your browser.

Hope this helps.

Thanks again!
A friend of mine has nero9, do you think installing nero9 on my PC should
also fix the problem?
Regarding xps:
I have now installed .net framework 3.5 but I still can't view the xps
files.
Could it be that I need IE7 or upwards because I still use IE6?

Please stay with Nero 7 for now as it worked with you before. We need
to fix the drivers used by Nero for your CD/DVD drive. When it is fully
working, you can upgrade to Nero 9 but you must observe the Licensing
Agreement and I can't advice you on that here.

As to viewing XPS files you just need to double-click on the file and
you can view it in your IE6. I use IE6 on one of my machines and it
works perfectly. If file association isn't working then try right-click
on the file and select open with ... and either select or browse to
IE6. If this works then we need to click the file association later.
Let us solve the problem step by step.

Hope this helps.

Many Thanks again!

Also make sure your original Nero Serial number is handy because this
will be required. This new download removes the old version from the
system completely, then it reboots the system and then it starts
re-installation. I did this exercise about a week ago for one of my
students so I know it.

Do you know how to get the serial number from the system?

Hi
I installed the update, was asked for serial number, entered my number,
instalation went through without problems but:
STILL NO BURNERS DETECTED!
What else can I do?
Regards
Peter
