help with DVD/CD burner

C

Carol Swan

I recently installed a new DVD/CD burner. With it came a Nero Startsmart
program. I don't know why, but now none of the Windows media programs
(Media Player, Movie Maker, PhotoStory) recognises that there is a burner
attached. Nero does and Magix does, and in the device manager, I'm told the
burner is working properly.

A friend thought it might have something to do with the Windows ASPI layer,
but I've been unable to fix it. I've tried a number of registry cleaners,
but my problem remains unsolved.

Any ideas?

You don't have to use Nero StartSmart since you can access Nero apps via Start >
Programs.

Which version of WMP?
Did you check WMPs Options via Menu bar Tools > Options?

AFAICT Movie Maker doesn't save/burn to CDs/DVDs.

AFAICT PhotoStory doesn't save/burn to CDs/DVDs.

Open "my computer" right click on the drive you just installed and select
properties,
the last tab displayed should say "recording" click on it.Now put a check in
the box that says "enable recording on this drive" click apply and ok your
way out. Windows should now recognise it as a burner.
Sometimes when you install nero or other burning programs it will uncheck
this box however it doesn't hurt anything to have it checked with nero
installed.

Hope this helps ........let me know
