We experienced a mechanical hard drive crash. We bought a new hard drive, and used our XP home edition to restore. I can't find the start menu. I've been to ms to get the lastest downloads and security helps. Where is my menu bar?

Not sure what you are asking. Are you saying that the Start Button itself
is missing after a fresh install?

When you "restored", did you do an actual installation of Windows XP or did
you use a "restore CD" from the people who sold you the computer and it put
the computer back to the same state it was when you bought it?

If you are looking for individual applications (word, excel, works, etc) and
all you did was install Windows XP Home, then you still need to install the
other applications. If you received a "restoration CD" with your PC and you
used it to restore your computer, you need to contact the people you bought
it from for more assistance, because it is supposed to restore the computer
back to a state it was in when you first got it.
