One other thing to bear in mind is that the free anti spyware agents don't continuously monitor the PC - in other words, you have to run regular scans to stay clean. Spybot is the exception to the rule.You normally have to buy the upgraded vrsion of the programe to get the full monty. Another good anti spyware programme is Ewido.

Microsoft Antispyware provides realtime protection, as does Ewido IIRC.

Oops - forgotten about M/S but as far as I know Ewido only covers real time protection ie constantly monitoring the system in real time, if you purchase the retail programme - but I'm happy to stand corrected.

I was looking at the AVG site which now owns Ewido and saw the it's the Plus version which offered real time protection and so assumed that the free one didn't. Which ever Ewido you end up with though it still seems to be a good product, and worth having.
