Hi,

Im not exactly clever when it comes to PC's so thought id ask for help before paying for someone to look at it.

Bout 6mths ago I had to reset PC and put it back to factory settings after gettin a trojen i couldnt remove, since then the pc hasnt been as efficient as it previously was.

I have changed internet supplier, was on BT broadband and now on sky's free basic package. I know there will be a difference in speeds but the actual PC is so slow even when not on the internet.

Ive defrag'd, use spyware doctor and Norton regulary, and even removed alot of my games to free up space. Is there anything i can do other than put RAM in??

Comp details are;
Windows XP, Norton 2007, Spyware Doctor, SKY Basic package wireless, ive got 768mb RAM, geforce 6200 and intel celeron 2.8 ghz.

Can it just be the RAM that is slowing my computer down?

What do you mean reset?

You have reset the BIOS? (Thats the screen that appears as you boot up with all the writing on it)

Or just reset as in rebooted the system and then ran system wide virus checkers and what not?

The starter of your problems I can pretty much say is Norton (Hmm CR*P)

It takes over far to many system resources, Get shut!

Download and run these two programs and see if they make a difference ,

http://pcdecrapifier.com/download

http://www.ccleaner.com/

It might be worth running this to make sure that you have got rid of all nastys .

I use Norton and noticed my computer takes a long time to actually get to an active start screen.

Any suggestions on a better antivirus software.

I do not use Microsoft Applications - I use Wordperfect - Mailwasher - Agent and Firefox instead - if this makes a difference. The computer is An HP pavilion t340 UK with 2 gigs memory.

I meant that i had to put my computer back to the original state when i bought it. I had to start from scratch. It was a major pain in the rear. I will try gettin a different virus software package, i did have panda before and it was pretty good. thanks and i'll let you know how it goes.

go to run and type chkdsk
It will scan your HDD for errors. This might be what is causing your slow computer.
Failing that download ccleaner. Its great for cleaning up junk and sorting out your registry which could also be slowing you down.

ps. Destroy norton now!! and go with AVG or Avast ( I prefer Avast) both are free and great virus blockers/removers.

No 756meg ram is alot for windows xp ,unless your running vista then you need more.

Your card is not bad and you do have a fast pc.

This may be down to the software your running in the background.

I know norton does take alot of ram so you could try a other less ram hog virus checker.

Just see how much software you have running in the background.

Talking about bittorents is fine . However we do not condone the use of illegal hacks or keygens etc etc .
