Very slow computer

Hi,
My computer has turned very slow, just one day I turn it on and
everything began to slow down. I have already scanned for viruses,
uninstalled programs I don't use, run an antispyware program, updated Windows
XP pro, defragmentated the hd and looked for errors in it; but the pc didn't
have viruses nor spywares, so... what happens? can someone help me please?
The computer has a processor of 2.8GHz, and 512MB RAM. It spends more
than 1 min. to open the Internet Explorer or My PC, and it spends even more
time if I want to open other programs. In the task manager, it doesn't appear
that I'm using the 100% of the pc (36% is the maximum).

What anti-virus program? What anti-spyware program? Are they up to date? One
anti-spyware program isn't enough. Note what Eric Howes, who has done
extensive testing on Anti-Spyware products, states:

"No single anti-spyware scanner removes everything. Even the best-performing
anti-spyware scanner in these tests missed fully one quarter of the
"critical" files and Registry entries" See

Despite what you've run, my guess is malware infestation. Read here:

IE 7 beta 2 and 3 caused my slowdown. It took about 6 hours to figure it out.
I did everything you did. If you have beta's on your computer, try deleting
them and see if your computer speeds up. Mine sure did....it stopped
freezing...it's quicker. For now I took off Windows Defender. I like the
program, but I am not sure whether this added to the problem. I still use
ad-aware.

Hi again,

I scanned it with etrust av, norton, ad-aware and spybot and windows
defender, and nothing happened, it didn't have problems.

Thank you for your interest!

I think it may be the ie beta 2, because it's installed in that
computer. I'm gonna uninstall it and see what happens.

Thank You
