My wife has a reoccurring issue with Adobe Flash as well. It keeps
disappearing for some reason and she has to constantly re-install. We
have done the uninstall protocol, two days later same problem. We've
tried to eliminate what we could, (firewalls, anti-virus, spyware
programs) to see what's been killing it but can't figure it out. So what's
up with this? Why does it keep disappearing?
When installed, it's in the Downloaded Program Files folder. Are you
running a cleanup task that empties this folder? With IE6, you can look
in Internet Options, General tab, "Settings" button, "View Objects"
button, and right-click the "Shockwave Flash" object. Click Properties
and try the "Update" option. If it disappears from that folder, that
might help you work out the cause; if not, a registry change could be
the reason for it disappearing.
One other thought.. Enter this into a CMD prompt:
attrib +r C:\windows\downlo~1\swflash.inf
That will add the Read Only attribute to the file and prevent it from
being deleted. Windows will delete it anyway, or you might find you
can't update it because of the setting.
