get the message about sypware and can't get in my compter to disable windows
system restore temporarily to try dos scan again...have tried loggin in via
safe mode as me and as admin to do dos scan, but still get spyware warning
and attempt to load locus software exe...how do i get to my computer
properties to change settings and scan again? mcafee said to contact

McAfee is junk, along with it's evil twin Norton. It's difficult to load
and run a scanner with the kind of infectors you've obviously got on
the PC. One thing that might bail you out is a tool from Trend-Micro
called SysClean. The download package is found here:
http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp
You want the "SysClean Package" at 3.2 Megabytes. I'd read thru
the documentation and learn how to add the latest pattern file and
run the utility.

A good general tutorial on removing things like this can be found here:

As to McAfee or Norton, I'd remove either and replace with NOD32
( ~$39) or the free offerings from AVG or Avast.

Your computer is infected. The warning about the potential spyware
operation is coming from the malware. Unfortunately, you didn't include
the name of the program that is giving you the warning so I can't point
you to exact removal instructions. I did a Google for "locus software
exe" and got several hits showing that this is rogue antimalware,
possibly PCPrivacyTool but there are other rogues that are connected
with that executable as well.

Go to this link at BleepingComputer and see if your malware (like
PCPrivacyTool) is listed there:

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/forum55.html

If it is, follow the removal instructions or - if they seem too
difficult or you can't find the exact name of the rogue program -
register at BleepingComputer and post a HijackThis log there to get
guided help. Make sure you read the posting FAQ first.
