can't remove taskbar icon

An insidious spyware named SPYAXE invaded my computer, took over my Internet
Explorer homepage, bombarded me with virus warnings, put a fake microsoft
icon on my taskbar that alternates between the MS icon and a red X that say
virus alert. This entire scam is geared to getting me to pay SPYAXE $50 to
remove any spyware from my computer (including the very intrusive spyware
they infected me with). I have used McAfee Virus Scan to scan for this
spyware but was unable to remove it - it said it did but it kept coming back.
Finally I looked on the internet and found a website (bleepingcomputer.com)
that offered a download that removes SPYAXE, and it did for the most part
except that damn taskbar icon still remains and I am unable to remove it even
using msconfig. It just keeps blinking and telling me I have a virus. Keep in
mind I have virus scanned my hard drive a dozen times with McAfee and Spybot
so I know I don't have any more viruses. Any suggestions as to what to do??
How to get rid of that blinking, obnoxious icon????Thanks for your help

There are other programs that can remove Spyaxe, all of which are free.

Use noahdfear's SmitFraud and SpyAxe removal tool.

Nick Skrepetos, author of SuperAdBlocker, says that his program will
also remove SpyAxe. There is a free, full-functional 15-day trial
available. The trial can be uninstalled after malware removal.

Lavasoft says its most recent updates to Ad-aware (free) will also
remove SpyAxe.

After using Ad-ware and Spybot to clean your system. The reamaining could
just be the ion on the task bar
If you see new DLL in WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 such as WBECOM.DLL. It is easy to
find out by sort the directory using the lastest update. The system doesn't
allow you to delete these files
You can use AntiPUPER as suggested in this site. Then rename the suffix DLL
to OLDDLL
Reboot the system, then go there to delete the file.
