Unwanted taskbar programs

I was recently attached by a virus and Norton Software removed the virus.
However, the virus left a program running on my taskbar and I cannot deleat
the program. The program is called "Virus Alert!" and when I right click on
the taskbar icon it just gives me a name and does not give me any futther
options.

If I just click on the icon a windo pops up telling me that my computer is
infected and if I click on that window it takes me to the internet to buy new
antispyware.

I just want the icon and the program off my computer. I cannot even
identity what running program is directing this icon.

What can I do?

The "virus" warning you are seeing is the result of either the virus or
spyware.

Download both spybot and adaware. They are both free for personal use
and all you have to do to find them is type in the names in google and
click search...

Once downloaded and installed, update them. Spybot can be tricky, I
like to update that one, one update at a time so it doesn't hang...

Then run complete system scans with them and be sure to immunize with
spybot.

Let me know how it goes!

Here are two utilities that should help:
Process Explorer: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/ProcessExplorer.html
Auto Runs: http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html

After installing these two utilities run Process explorer. Then click on
that nasty icon and look for a spike in the CPU graph in Process Explorer.
Then using Process Explorer click on the icon (located at the extreme right
of the toolbar) that looks like a wheel, click and drag the icon over top of
the spike on the CPU graph, this will highlight the process that is the
culprit.

Once you know this you can use Autoruns to stop this process from starting
or simply delete the file if you can find it.
