IE getting redirected to http:///

When using IE all my surfing gets redirected to http:///.
Not sure if I have spyware. Scanned my computer and some stuff was
removed.
If I drop down to a dos prompt I can ping sites and a return address
comes back.
I have an IP address and all setting look good.
But I can get out.

Fred,

Check your HOSTS file. Usually located in the 'etc' directory of
'windows\system32\drivers'

Remove 'read only' (right-click | Properties), click APPLY | OK.

Open in Notepad & check to see if you have only one entry:

localhost 127.0.0.1

If not, back up the contents, change to the above entry & then save the file.

Now, retry the Internet
