my problem is when I turn on my comp this message appears: Administrator has
prohibited acces to CD/DVD ROM.
So when i open My Computer i see my cd drive, dvd drive, floppy drive and
USB drive circled and cross with a red sign (sign as on no smoking). When i
try to click one one it says: access is denied.

I tried everything, from user accounts to security settings and so on, i
cant get anything to work. I also tried system restore but no matter what
point it is still there. Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your only option is to talk to your IT department at work and explain why
you need access to CD/DVD/Floppy drives.

Start, Run, GPEDIT.MSC

Computer Configuration, Window Setting, Security Setting, Local
Policies, Security Options.

Note that the System Restore tool does not clean a compromised system!
You can bet that your problems have been caused by Malware, installed
with administrative(!) privileges. Note also that Malware when taking
advantage of administrative privileges can easily bypass any anti-virus.

This is a home PC and I am the administrator. I have not changed any settings
the warning message just appeared. Ihave been using this machine for about 6
months. It came with Norton Anti virus installed to which I renewd my sub. I
think this was a mistake on talking to others.
Any thoughts?

I tried this but it appears that in the policy for restricting devices the
properties are showing as disabled. Which if all was ok would allow me to
access drives. I still can't. I did try changing the properties to enable
just to see what happened.
Any Thoughts?

Humm, you might want to start scanning the system with Adaware SE and
Spybot S&D for starters.

Tonys, did you always have Acer desk top utilities installed, and the
problem just appeared suddenly? If that is the case what led you to
removing them? Or was it that you you recently install it and then the
problem appeared?

I had the same thing happen to my Acer PC after a couple of months of use. I
was using the DVD drive to burn a DVD with photos on it and when I went to
check the disc to make sure it had burned properly I noticed that all drives
with removeable data (including share drives plugged into the USB) port were
inaccessible.

The drives and ports were all fine when checked by the system, I just
couldn't gain access to them. I had backed all my data previously on my
external drive, so I've re-loaded the entire system from the back-up disk
this morning (still running while I'm at work). I'm hoping this will work,
but if not I will try the solution that worked for you. I've also noticed
that Acer has no live support (nor does Microsoft) that you don't have to pay
for...cheapos!!

I had the same problem and re-loaded using the backup disk. I'll try your
solution even if the total reboot works...

thanks,

Matt
