administrator has prohibited access to CD & FDD drives

Hi there,

Any ideas on what could be causing this Acer desktop, Win XP Pro SP2, Nero 7
Premium.

All I have on the CD/DVD and FDD drive is a red circle with a red slash and
cannot get access to these drives.

If you're the administrator, scan the system for Malware ASAP. Note that
modern Malware can easily bypass any anti-virus when installed with
administrative privileges.

Hi there,

No Malware, just changed the drive letter the red circle has gone but put a
disk in the drive and still cannot see it and if I double click on it it
says Access is denied?

Any thoughts?

No more thoughts. Logon with administrative privileges and reset the
drive letter as it was before. If the same message appears, you can bet
that the system is compromised unless you've been messing around with
"tuning tools". Since *nothing* comes out of the blue, install

If you have TweakUI installed, verify that the drives aren't checked off in
the wrong way.
